Jean-Louis Collard

Jean-Louis Collard is an experienced STEM, Math, and Computer Science Principles teacher with a diverse background that extends from electromechanics to system administration. His current role as the IT Coordinator at an International School in Rwanda reflects his commitment to merging education with state-of-the-art technology.

From a young age, Jean-Louis exhibited a robust curiosity about the world around him. At the tender age of 6, a mechanical watch owned by his grandfather became a source of immense fascination. This inquisitiveness led him to dissect and reassemble not just toys, but everyday objects, in an attempt to decode their workings. His passion for technology blossomed as he built his own computer during his teenage years.

In 1995, Jean-Louis pursued studies in electromechanics, laying a foundation for his career as a field technician with a globally renowned elevator company. His exceptional skills and dedication propelled him to become one of the company's top technicians. Recognizing his expertise, the organization entrusted him with supervisory roles, training new technicians, and later a transition to sales — diversifying and promoting their product range directly to customers.

An unexpected turn in his journey came in 2016 when he relocated to New Orleans due to his wife's teaching contract. Here, he embraced the challenging yet rewarding world of education, initially as a substitute teacher at Lycée Français de la Nouvelle Orléans. This role awakened a newfound passion in him — the joy of nurturing young minds. By 2017, the Ecole Bilingue de la Nouvelle Orléans identified his unique skill set, bringing him onboard as a STEM and US Math teacher. For Jean-Louis, mathematics wasn't just a subject; it was a universal language. In addition to setting up a new STEM Lab, he undertook middle school math teaching responsibilities, guiding students for four enriching years.

Jean-Louis believes in the transformative power of education. He is deeply committed to helping students achieve their goals, sparing no effort in providing the support and resources they require. As an educator, his mission is to empower students, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to society.

Understanding the ever-evolving nature of the world, especially in the realm of technology, Jean-Louis continually seeks to upskill himself. In 2021, he embarked on two notable educational endeavors: a course to become a certified cloud-oriented system administrator and another to be a ''Google for Education Special Trainer''. These certifications are not just for personal growth; they underscore his dedication to bringing the best of technology and education together

Currently, as the IT Coordinator at an International School in Rwanda, Jean-Louis manages complex systems, ensuring data privacy and security. He also continues his teaching journey, focusing on STEM and introducing Computer Science Principles to Grade 9 students. Through his roles, he aspires to foster an environment of curiosity, innovation, and lifelong learning.
